Alec Van Wagner

Biography

Alec Van Wagner is a student, teacher, and performer based in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles. He is working towards his bachelor’s degree at California State University, Northridge, where he has studied extensively with notable professors, including Dr. Lawrence Stoffel, Dr. Katherine Ramos Baker, and Dr. P. Blake Cooper. Alec has served in various leadership positions at CSUN as CSUN NAfME’s Student Choral Representative (2020-21) and the University Chorus’ Co-President (2019-22). As CSUN NAfME’s Choral Representative, Alec served as a liaison between the future instrumental and choral music teachers and the Choral/Vocal Clinicians. As the Chorus’s Co-President, Alec helped to ensure rehearsals and performances ran smoothly. A significant achievement at CSUN for Alec was being selected to join the Gamma Kappa Chapter of the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda, a Music Honors Society. As a teacher, Alec has worked with a local high school to help instruct their marching band’s front ensemble. Additionally, he has taught private students on both tuba and piano. Some of Alec’s notable choral performances include Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat in D, the finale of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and more. Alec’s instrumental performances with the CSUN Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble in the Plaza Del Sol and the Soraya Great Hall at CSUN have included music from Percy Grainger (in which Alec played both tuba and piano), John Philip Sousa, Frank Ticheli, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Giuseppe Verdi and many other famous band composers.
